CES - Jean McCarthy, Deb Jancewicz, Lisa Mangini, Carolyn Tremblay, Becky Bailey, Johanna Kimball

 1. Volunteer Celebration - Thursday, June 4th, 2009 at the Barn from 6:30-9:00pm.

  • Sherri will send out a letter to the teachers to see who is coming - they bring the dessert

  • Dawn Pelletier and Carolyn Tremblay are in charge of decorating - anyone who wishes to help should be there around 3:30pm the day of the celebration.

2. Budget proposal - Dee Cote presented the 2009-2010 balanced budget proposal - after reviewing, Kathy Rutter motioned to adopt the balanced budget proposed for the 2009-2010 school year.  Sherri Ziomek seconded the motion.  The proposal passed unanimously.  See attached budget worksheet.

3.  Fundraising - Lara Heline will be helping out Linda Lynch next year on fundraising.  We were looking for new ideas.  Some ideas were:

  • Trivia night - teams made up of families or small groups (3-6 people) would pay an entrance fee, we could either provide food or make it a pot-luck, then an outside firm comes in and runs the trivia games.

  • Tubs of cookie dough or frozen cookies.

  • Labels with names - for putting in childrens' belongings - suggested by Kathleen Silva

4. New purchases - a discussion was had around the following suggested new purchases the PTA may want to make.  More information was to be found out before acting on any of these.

  • Coffee maker - the CES teachers' lounge does not have a coffee maker.  The AES' has a Keurig because someone knew a distributor.  The teachers buy their coffee for $0.50/cup and that pays for the individual coffee containers and supplies.  Dee will look into what it would take to get one for CES.

  • Hot dog machine - currently we rent a hotdog machine for about $30.00/day for the family fun fair and the science fair.  The question is, does it make sense for us to buy our own?  We would probably use it more often if we had our own and we could rent it out to other groups.  Dee will look into the cost and figure out ROI (return on investment).

  • Large coffee perculator - there is one but it takes over 45 minutes to percolate.  Dee will look into what's out there that will better fit our needs.

5.  Classroom math supplies - 4th grade CES teachers asked the PTA if there was any money available to buy some math supplies for the classroom - calculators, protractors...  also Barbara Bailey asked if the PTA could refurbish some of the math supplies in the Math closet at AES.  After considerable discusstion, Kathy Rutter motioned "to split the classroom support money of $700.00 evenly ($350.00 each) between the two schools to provide math supplies for the AES math closet as deemed appropriate by Barbara Bailey, and math supplies to CES for 4th grade classrooms up to $350.00 with any balance to be spent on other needed math supplies as deemed appropriate by the CES math coordinator.  Jean McCarthy seconded the motion.  A vote was taken and the motion passed unanimously for the allocation of money for math supplies to the two schools.
